ISLAND HOPPING

ON EMILY HILL IN SINGAPORE | LITRATO: IMAGES FROM SUGARLANDIA by Julius D. Mariveles

SINGAPORE – This is not necessarily part of the country’s group of islands but am placing this post here all the same.

We are in Singapore and we visited Emily Hill, a place where artists gather and had an interview with with one of Singapore’s finest and respected actor and art critic, T. Sasitharan. Sasi, as he is called, is one of the co-founders and now director of the Intercultural Theatre Institute. We also witnessed actors practicing for the Koodiyattam, a form of Sanskit theatre.

Sasi explaining about theatre, a "cultural capital" that must be supported by the government.

ACTORS practicing for the Koodiyattam, a Sanskrit theatre traditionally performed in the state of Kerala in India.
