NegrosSugar and BacolodSpice are a husband-and-wife team, a couple of journalists (one retired, the other still active), pop culture observers, political commentators, and social networkers.

NegrosSugar is Hannah A. Papasin, an Assistant Professor in the University of St La Salle Bacolod where she also graduated with Cum Laude honors.  A pop culture observer, she contributes mostly movie reviews and tongue-in-cheek articles skewering pop culture.  Before she was hired by La Salle-Bacolod, she was with SUN.STAR Bacolod where she had her meet-cute with Bacolod Spice.

Her articles are diverse; her write-up on a local artist once landed in a German art magazine.  She also used to write articles for IT Magazine, a lifestyle and culture magazine for the partyphiles in Bacolod.  Because of her experience in journalism, she was hired as publication adviser for The Spectrum, La Salle-Bacolod’s official student media corps.  Under her, the publication dominated local and national awards bodies, often coming home with major awards like Best Magazine and Best Newspaper. She currently teaches Philippine Literature, Film Criticism and Research subjects in La Salle-Bacolod.  She also finished her Masters degree in Education in the same university.  She is currently the Communication head for the University.

BacolodSpice is Julius D. Mariveles, production chief-slash-news director and anchorman of dyEZ Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod.  He was one-time president of the Negros Press Club, a one-time TV host, and a photojournalist.  A huge fan of Henri Cartier-Bresson and James Nachtwey,  BacolodSpice believes in the “decisive” moment, often preferring that his subjects — mostly ordinary people, labourers, peasant, field workers, and the homeless – be taken in all their candid glory, warts, facial lines, wrinkles and all.  He started his journalism career as a cub reporter in dyAF before he became news reporter for SUN.STAR Bacolod, and later its acting news editor.  An activist, he also served as secretary-general for the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan for three years before he went back to mainstream media via Aksyon Radyo.

A political commentator, he wields the heavier pen to the site with his mostly sarcastic political commentaries and social observations.  Also a lover and a cook (check out his recipes in this site).

The Gremlin is Richard Meriveles, techie extraordinaire and the genius behind the site’s development.  He once worked as part-time faculty member at the Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod, teaching multimedia and web development.  He had a slew of teaching experiences before that, as he was hired earlier by West Negros University and La Consolacion College, teaching  programming and animation related subjects .   He also served as webmaster in LCC from 2005 – 2008 before he became webmaster and then production chief for ABENI Media Productions/Xpresscom Channel 11 for close to a year.

Web designing is also of the Gremlin’s strongest suits, as he was once hired for such a job by Bigfoot Global Soutions in Cebu in 2004, then by Crumpled Paper Design and Production Studios, Ltd. and by DAK  Solutions, Inc. based in Newport Beach, California in 2007.

NegrosSugar is a struggling short story writer; BacolodSpice is struggling to lose weight, The Gremlin is a successful table tennis player.
